The Window
She sat, silently,
Eyes burning through the floor.
The window sat, knowingly,
The moon would still hold its glow.
She raised her chin, solemnly,
As she glanced towards the bit of light.
Light that created shadows,
No doubt, the lingering shadows of her past.
She smiled, sadly.
Her thoughts reverting to those lost nights.
She welcomed those haunting visitors,
That insist on reminding her,
Remind her of the time that did not last.
She quietly made her way towards the window,
To let the silver rays in.
The moonlight welcomed its visitor,
As it has always done so, holding back a wicked grin.
For when her eyes looked closely,
She blinked away a sea of tears.
He had returned to claim her,
To devour her, despite the forgotten years.
